Our services are individualized to meet the needs of our clients, so we anticipate you will have many questions about services, enrollment, payments, etc. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions and answers. If your situation is unique, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your questions.
What profiles are TWC services designed to benefit the most?
Our social groups are designed to support verbal children (or children with emerging language) who are not aggressive physically or verbally. Children with high functioning or moderate levels of Autism, children with ADHD, children with General and Social Anxiety or social weaknesses (awkward, shy, over bearing), children who struggle to make and maintain friendships, and rigid thinkers all benefit from what we offer. Children who are nonverbal do not benefit as much because our groups and activities require language to engage socially and follow directions. Young children still developing language and working on social/functional language and play skills do benefit from our programs for young children. We do not have the resources to support children who aggress physically and to keep them and others safe. We cannot accept children who aggress verbally or tantrum for long periods of time. This is because many of the children who come to TWC are emotionally vulnerable and verbal aggressions and/or loud long tantrums are stressful for them to witness.
Do you provide 1:1 support for children within TWC groups?
We do not currently have the resources to provide 1:1 support for children within our groups generally. However, we may collaborate with our consulting BCBA to provide fading support, which is billed separately. If a child works with an ABA tech from another agency, they may accompany the child to social group/ TWC events if appropriate and if their presence allows the child to get more out of the group/event. At times, a child may work 1:1 with one of our coaches. During their transition from 1:1 services into a group, the 1:1 provider may accompany them to group for a transition period. Billing for these situations are discussed case by case as each case is unique.
Can I get a schedule of your current social skills classes?
Yes. We can discuss our current class schedule whenever a session is already in progress. If we are in enrollment phase for a new session however we often simply don’t know what the schedule will be. Our enrollment process does not consist merely of setting a class time and age for each group and letting students enroll freely. We believe to make the most progress and benefit from the social group experience, it is imperative that groups have students who are similar in acquired skills, needed skills and performance levels as well as age, language abilities and many other factors. We realize this makes our enrollment process a bit complicated but we believe it is worth the work to create dynamic learning groups.
Why don’t you take insurance? Will my insurance company reimburse me?
TWC does not file or bill insurance companies directly. We only accept direct payments from clients and pre-approved agencies who have submitted a purchase order or other signed agreement to fund services. TWC provides invoices to clients with provider information and other details most insurance companies request when processing reimbursements. We happily work with you to answer any requests for additional information from your insurance company. However, it is the client's responsibility to understand any coverage restrictions and allowances of your insurance company prior to beginning services if your intention is to seek reimbursement. Some of our coaches have educational licenses while some have clinical licenses (Speech-Language Pathology, Clinical Mental Health, Family Counseling, Clinical Social Work). Services provided by professionals with educational licenses are not often covered by health insurance as they are viewed as educational in nature and not medical. We believe strongly that licensed special educators are extremely skilled in teaching children of differing learning styles the social skills content dynamically and through a variety of methodologies and curriculums we have available. We work to match the client with the provider who has the best suited skill-set, and to the curriculum and methodology through which we feel the client will best access the social learning they require. We do not base our decisions for matching clients with providers on insurance coverage.
There are many reasons we have decided to not take insurance, and our clients’ needs are at the top of the list. Reasons we have declined to accept insurance include:
Is there a set term of service or schedule at TWC?
Our social groups are designed to align with the school calendar in sessions or terms and billed weekly. They are designed to be ongoing in that we hope for the participants to continue to gain new skills through their continued participation. Clients are welcomed to re-register continuously for as long as they are making progress and enjoying the group. At times, some clients take a session (or part of a session) off to participate in sports and other activities, and often return the next season. New groups are added as children with similar needs come to us seeking services, and new children start in existing groups if their needs are a match with group. At times, we may re-organize our groupings and schedule to adjust to the evolving needs of our clients.
Do I need a diagnosis to get services with TWC?
No. Our instructional and therapeutic models are designed to support persons with social communication challenges but we find they are very effective for many people including those with high anxiety, sensory processing disorder, and other social related challenges. We are happy to discuss your exact needs to determine if our instructional and therapeutic models may benefit you.

There are many reasons we have decided to not take insurance, and our clients’ needs are at the top of the list. Reasons we have declined to accept insurance include:
- Improved Services for our Clients: Most insurance companies have policies regarding diagnosis requirements, treatment limits, and approved modalities of treatments. Through private pay, we are able to make recommendations based on your needs and set appropriate goals, length of treatment and treatment modality.
- Savings for our Clients: We are able to charge less for our services because we don’t spend valuable hours on insurance paperwork nor do we have staff hired solely for the purpose of managing insurance payments, billings and forms.
