emPOWER
*One of our most popular programs!
This Social Empowerment Group is designed for preteen and early teen girls with social cognitive weaknesses at the nuance level: personal space, friendship & trust pyramid, satire & humor, interpreting the social intentions of others, perspective weakness, social naivety... etc. The girls will engage in fun activities designed to build confidence by allowing them to realize their strength. All lessons and activities promote self-confidence, self-acceptance, healthy peer relationships, prosocial skills. We teach mindfulness, growth mindset, relationship skills, self reflection, coping skills, setting self goals, and SO MUCH MORE. This group will offer instruction & discussion as well as practice opportunities in a natural and safe social environment. Depending on the session, activities may include work on cooperative projects, role-playing social scenarios, reviewing video clips from media, social event planning and participation.
Peer mentors are welcomed participants with the understanding that all of the girls benefit and learn from one another.
EmPower 1 Tuesdays 5:00
EmPower 2 Thursdays 6:00
EmPower 3 Thursdays 6:00-7:30
*EmPower supports girls ages 8-17. Girls are grouped across E1, E2, and E3 according to the ages of girls enrolled (among other factors). Generally, E1 would host the youngest starting at age 7, while the older girls would attend E3, and the ages in between would attend E2. We aim to keep the developmental age distribution to 2-3 years in each group.
