Our Social Empowerment Groups (SEGs) are small groups of children of similar age, development, and social cognitive levels and social goal areas. Our SEGs focus on the development of social skills necessary to function successfully in the child's social world. Our emotional regulation effects our ability to function socially, and so emotional regulation is also frequently addressed. Parents are encouraged to maintain ongoing communication with their child's SCL as their identified social objectives may change as the child grows, develops, and experiences new social situations.

Some of the goals an SEG might focus on include:
  • initiating, developing and maintaining friendships
  • working as a group
  • understanding and using expected behaviors for different situations
  • thinking of others
  • developing Theory of Mind (everyone has their own thoughts and ideas)
  • understanding Perspective and Intention
  • ranking problems, respond at a level that correlates with the problem level, and develop problem solving strategies
  • developing emotional regulation strategies ("Chill Skills", yoga, Brain Gym©, mindfulness, etc...)
  • learning conversational skills
  • relationship dynamics
  • developing a healthy sense of self
  • social nuance skills (personal space, tone of voice, appropriate use of humor, etc..)
  • anxiety management

Parents are provided ongoing information about what the group is working on and can schedule a consult with the SCL to discuss your child's individual progress at any time. The fee for a 30-minute consult with your child's SCL is $30.
